Union IT minister Ravishankar Prasad has met popular messaging platform, WhatsApp vice president Chris Daniels and listed out the requirements of the government on the issue of traceability.
Incidents like mob lynching have occurred based on forward messages on WhatsApp and such incidents have disturbed the normalcy in few north states. Stepping into action, the government has sought location and identity of those misusing this platform.
Basing on the government requirements, WhatsApp has made changes to forwards messages and also restricted sending messages to not more than five people at once. It is also doing extensive research to improve efforts over time.
However, the union government is not satisfied with the steps taken by WhatsApp and accordingly is continuously putting pressure on the Facebook owned company.
WhatsApp is in plans to appoint a head for the country and would also set up a local team that would address the concerns of government and users.
